{"id":19,"date":"2016-03-08T03:56:44","date_gmt":"2016-03-08T03:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olohana.org\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2018-02-27T13:29:15","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T23:29:15","slug":"building-resilience-relationship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/olohana.org\/","title":{"rendered":"Building Resilience through Relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Building Resilience through Relationship<\/h1>\n<p>The Olohana Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Hawaii. <strong>We work with communities to co-build resilience and adaptation strategies to climate change through projects that intersect food, energy, water, and knowledge systems.<\/strong> These projects include the planting of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/rural-development\/\">food forests<\/a><\/strong> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/rural-development\/.html#uluinitiative\"><strong>Breadfruit\/Ulu Initiative,<\/strong><\/a> the creation of a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/youth-education-training\/\">youth resilience<\/a><\/strong> council as part of the Pacific Risk Management Ohana, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/historic-cultural-heritage-conservation-preservation\/\">conservation<\/a><\/strong> of Hawaii National Park Service trails, and other programs and projects that support <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/social-capital-development\/\">community<\/a><\/strong> relationship and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/indigenous-knowledge-systems\/\">knowledge<\/a><\/strong> sharing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Olohana Foundation does not work in isolation.<\/strong> Olohana means \u201call hands working together\u201d and refers to the work carried out with the participation and support of many organizations, institutions, agencies, and individuals in collaboration with the Olohana Foundation. Our <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/our-network-people-partners\/\">network<\/a><\/strong> is deep and wide. Similarly, each generation possesses particular knowledge and experience. Knowledge is cultivated through processes and systems.<\/p>\n<p>Olohana works with communities using the <a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/youth-education-training\/\"><strong>Inter-Generational Transfer of Knowledge&#x2122;<\/strong><\/a> process, facilitating the sharing of knowledge from one generation to the next. Olohana&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/rural-development\/\"><strong>food forest projects<\/strong><\/a> are\u00a0models of capacity- and sustainability-building \u00a0in communities throughout our islands.<\/p>\n<p>Olohana partners with such institutions as the <strong>University of Hawaii&#8217;s Shidler College of Business, Intertribal Council on Utility Policy,<\/strong> and <strong>Agroforestry Net<\/strong> to help communities establish micro-enterprises that are aligned with their community values and goals.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"column column-number-3 last column-span-1\"><p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/kalaniDoc2C.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-123 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/kalaniDoc2C-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"kalani&amp;Doc2C\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olohana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/kalaniDoc2C-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/olohana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/kalaniDoc2C-360x270.jpg 360w, https:\/\/olohana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/kalaniDoc2C.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Community Training and Social Enterprise<\/h2>\n<p>Olohana and our partners provide training and educational opportunities that empower the community and align with communal values and goals. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olohana.org\/index.php\/programs-projects-by-type\/\">Programs and projects<\/a><\/strong> focus on multi-scale agroforestry; food and energy security; economic development; women and family empowerment; historical, cultural, and environmental protection; disaster preparedness; and climate-change mitigation.
